Short answer

A warehouse management system (WMS) controls stock inside a warehouse: receiving, quality checks, putaway, bin locations, picking, packing, cycle counting and dispatch, usually with barcode or RFID scanning. Infikey builds custom WMS platforms for 3PLs, distributors and e-commerce fulfilment. Typical builds cost USD 40,000–100,000.

Cost

ScopeBudget (USD)Budget (INR)
Single-warehouse WMS with scanner app and ERP sync25,000–50,00020–40 lakh
Multi-warehouse or 3PL WMS with client portal and billing50,000–100,00040–80 lakh
E-commerce fulfilment with marketplace sync and packing automation40,000–90,00032–75 lakh

Rolling out without stopping the warehouse

  1. Label every bin and run a full stock count before go-live.
  2. Train pickers and supervisors on the scanner app in short sessions.
  3. Go live on inbound first, then outbound, with extra staff on the first days.
  4. Run daily cycle counts for the first month to prove accuracy.

Project blueprint

Warehouse management system for an e-commerce fulfilment centre

Based on the requirements we hear most often from buyers like this.

A fulfilment centre handles orders for several online brands. Stock is tracked by product but not by bin, pickers walk the whole warehouse for each order, and wrong items are shipped often enough to hurt client relationships.

What we would build

  • Bin-level inventory with barcode receiving and putaway suggestions
  • Batch and wave picking on handheld scanners
  • Packing stations with scan verification and weight checks
  • Marketplace and Shopify order sync for each client brand
  • 3PL billing for storage, picking and packing per client

How success is measured

  • Pick accuracy and wrong-item shipments
  • Orders picked per labour hour
  • Stock accuracy from cycle counts
  • Orders dispatched within the client SLA

FAQ

Questions buyers ask us.

Do we need barcodes or RFID?

Barcodes suit most warehouses and are cheap to start with. RFID helps with high-value items, returnable containers or very high volumes where scanning each item is slow. Many warehouses use barcodes for bins and products and add RFID later.

Can the WMS handle several clients as a 3PL?

Yes. Each client gets separate inventory, rules and a portal, and the system calculates storage, handling and value-added service charges for billing.

Can it sync with Shopify and marketplaces?

Yes. Orders flow in automatically from Shopify, WooCommerce and marketplaces, stock levels flow back, and tracking numbers update once orders are dispatched.
