Short answer
KYC and AML software verifies who a customer is (documents, biometrics, government databases), screens them against sanctions, PEP and adverse-media lists, assigns a risk rating and monitors transactions. Infikey builds custom onboarding and case management on top of verified data providers. Typical builds cost USD 15,000–45,000.

Rules by market
India
The RBI KYC Master Direction and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act set the baseline. Software usually supports Aadhaar-based verification where the entity is permitted to use it, offline Aadhaar XML and DigiLocker documents, PAN verification, Central KYC (CKYC) search and upload, and Video-based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP) with live officers, geo-location and liveness. Suspicious transactions are reported to FIU-IND. Securities businesses also use SEBI-registered KRAs.
UAE
UAE AML and counter-terrorist financing laws require customer due diligence, beneficial-owner checks and screening against local and UN lists. Onboarding often uses Emirates ID and UAE Pass, and suspicious activity is reported through the UAE FIU’s goAML system.
UK
The Money Laundering Regulations 2017 and JMLSG guidance require risk-based due diligence, enhanced checks for higher-risk customers and screening against the UK sanctions list maintained by HM Treasury (OFSI). Suspicious activity reports go to the National Crime Agency.
US
The Bank Secrecy Act, FinCEN’s Customer Identification Program and Customer Due Diligence rules (including beneficial ownership) and OFAC sanctions screening apply to banks and money services businesses. Suspicious activity reports are filed with FinCEN.
Build on providers, own the workflow
We rarely recommend building face matching or sanctions databases from scratch. Instead we integrate proven providers and build the parts that give you an edge: the onboarding experience, the risk rules and the compliance workflow.
- India: HyperVerge, IDfy, Signzy, Digio, Perfios, Protean (PAN) and CKYC through your regulated entity.
- Global: Onfido, Sumsub, Veriff, Jumio, Persona, ComplyAdvantage, Refinitiv World-Check, Dow Jones.
- Fallback routing: a second provider if the first is down or fails to verify a document type.
This approach gets you live faster and lets you switch vendors without rebuilding your app. Weighing your own build against a ready-made tool? Try the build vs buy calculator.
Design your onboarding and AML workflow
Tell us your customer types, markets and current providers. We reply with a scope and budget range.
Cost
| Scope | Budget (USD) | Budget (INR) |
|---|---|---|
| eKYC onboarding flow in an existing app (one provider) | 8,000–18,000 | 6.5–15 lakh |
| KYC + screening + risk scoring + case management | 15,000–45,000 | 12–35 lakh |
| Video KYC with agent console and recordings | 20,000–40,000 | 16–32 lakh |
| Transaction monitoring with configurable rules | 25,000–60,000 | 20–50 lakh |
Provider fees per verification are separate and vary by volume.
Reducing onboarding drop-off
Every extra KYC step loses customers. We design onboarding to pass compliance with the fewest possible screens:
- Pre-fill data from verified sources instead of asking users to type it.
- Tiered KYC: let users start with minimum KYC and upgrade when they need higher limits.
- Clear camera guidance and instant feedback on blurry or cropped documents.
- Save-and-resume so a failed step does not mean starting again.
- Funnel analytics on each step so you can see exactly where people leave.
Project blueprint
Onboarding and screening platform for a remittance startup
Based on the requirements we hear most often from buyers like this.
A cross-border remittance startup onboards customers manually by checking ID photos on email and screening names against sanctions lists in spreadsheets. Onboarding is slow, and the compliance team cannot show regulators a clean audit trail.
What we would build
- Digital onboarding with document capture, OCR, liveness check and face match
- Sanctions, PEP and adverse media screening through a data provider API
- Risk scoring with rules for enhanced due diligence
- Case management for alerts, with a full audit trail of every decision
- Ongoing monitoring and periodic re-KYC reminders
How success is measured
- Onboarding completion rate and time to approve
- Share of customers approved without manual review
- False-positive screening alerts per analyst
- Audit findings related to KYC records
