Short answer
A pharmacy app lets customers order medicines and health products, upload prescriptions for pharmacist verification, set refill reminders and track delivery. Infikey builds pharmacy apps and back-office systems for licensed pharmacies and chains, with batch, expiry and prescription controls. An MVP typically costs USD 25,000–60,000.

Rules for selling medicines online
Pharmacy rules are strict and vary by market. The software must make the rules easy to follow and hard to bypass.
- India: medicines are dispensed by licensed pharmacies under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules. Prescription-only drugs (Schedule H, H1 and X) need a valid prescription verified by a registered pharmacist, and Schedule H1 sales must be recorded. Dedicated e-pharmacy rules have been in draft for years, so most platforms operate through licensed pharmacies. DPDP Act consent applies to customer data.
- UAE: pharmacies need DHA, DoH or MOHAP licensing, and online sale and delivery must follow the regulator’s requirements, including restrictions on controlled and semi-controlled medicines.
- UK: online pharmacies must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and follow its guidance for services provided at a distance, including safeguards for medicines that can be misused.
- US: state board of pharmacy licences apply in each state you ship to, controlled substances follow DEA rules, and certification such as LegitScript is needed to advertise pharmacy services on major ad platforms.
We build prescription capture, pharmacist sign-off, restricted-product rules and complete audit trails. Your licensing and pharmacist-in-charge obligations stay with you.

Inventory and operations done right
- Batch and expiry tracking with first-expiry-first-out picking and near-expiry alerts.
- Medicine master data with salts, strengths, pack sizes and substitutes.
- Stock sync between stores, warehouse and the app, so customers do not order what is out of stock.
- Distributor ordering with automatic reorder suggestions.
- Cold chain flags for temperature-sensitive products and delivery routing.
Technology
Flutter or React Native for customer and delivery apps, React for consoles, Laravel or NestJS with PostgreSQL for the backend, OCR to help pharmacists read prescriptions faster (the pharmacist always verifies), maps and routing APIs for delivery, and payment integration with UPI, cards and cash on delivery.
Project blueprint
Online ordering app for a regional pharmacy chain
Based on the requirements we hear most often from buyers like this.
A regional pharmacy chain loses repeat customers to national e-pharmacies. It wants customers to upload prescriptions, order from the nearest store and get delivery, while pharmacists stay in control of prescription checks.
What we would build
- Customer app with prescription upload, medicine search and refill reminders
- Pharmacist review queue for prescription verification before dispatch
- Order routing to the nearest store with live stock
- Delivery app for store riders with proof of delivery
- Integration with the existing pharmacy billing and inventory software
How success is measured
- Online orders as a share of chain revenue
- Repeat order rate driven by refill reminders
- Orders fulfilled from the nearest store without transfer
- Prescription checks completed before dispatch (target: all)
