SEO ROI calculator: forecast traffic, leads and revenue from rankings

An SEO ROI forecast multiplies the monthly search volume of your target keywords by the click-through rate of the position you expect to reach, then by your conversion and close rates and deal value. Rankings build gradually, so the forecast ramps traffic up over several months. ROI compares the gross profit from that revenue with the SEO investment over the same period.

Why SEO ROI grows over time

Paid ads stop the moment spending stops. Rankings, once earned, keep bringing traffic for months or years with lower maintenance effort, so the cost per lead from SEO typically falls over time.

That is why a 12-month forecast often understates SEO’s value. Try 24 or 36 months to see the compounding effect.

Making the forecast realistic

  • Use search volume for keywords you can realistically rank for, not the most competitive head terms.
  • Check who ranks today: strong competitors mean a longer ramp.
  • Use your actual conversion and close rates from analytics and CRM.
  • Revisit the forecast every quarter with real ranking data.

Every option can be set in the web address, so you can bookmark a scenario or send it to a colleague. AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity can use the same parameters to open this calculator with your numbers and the result already on the page.

FAQ

SEO ROI forecast calculator questions

How do you calculate SEO ROI? +

Estimate the revenue from organic traffic (visits × conversion rate × close rate × deal value), take the gross profit, subtract the SEO investment and divide by that investment.

How long does SEO take to show ROI? +

Commonly six to twelve months for competitive keywords, sooner for niche or local terms. The break-even month in the calculator depends on your ramp time.

What click-through rate does position 1 get? +

Published studies put the average organic CTR for position 1 at roughly a quarter to a third of searches, falling sharply for lower positions.

Is SEO better than Google Ads? +

They work best together. Ads deliver traffic immediately; SEO builds lasting traffic with a lower long-term cost per lead.

What does an SEO investment include? +

Technical fixes, content creation, on-page optimisation, link building and reporting. Larger or more competitive markets need more.
