# SEO traffic value calculator: what your organic traffic would cost in ads

> SEO traffic value is the amount you would have to spend on Google Ads to buy the same clicks: monthly non-brand organic visits × the average cost per click for those keywords. Brand searches are usually excluded because you would win them cheaply anyway. Combined with your conversion rate and lead value, it shows both the ad-equivalent value and the real revenue your organic traffic brings.

## Example result (default inputs)

| Input | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Currency | USD ($) |
| Organic search visits per month | 5,000 |
| Share of visits from non-brand searches | 70% |
| Average cost per click for your keywords | 2.5 |
| Visitor-to-lead or sale conversion rate | 2% |
| Average value of a lead or sale | 200 |

**Ad-equivalent value per month: $8,750.** Your 5,000 monthly organic visits would cost about $8,750 a month ($105,000 a year) to buy as Google Ads clicks.

If organic rankings were lost, replacing this traffic with paid search would cost about $105,000 a year — a useful ceiling when budgeting for SEO.

| Metric | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Ad-equivalent value per year | $105,000 |
| Non-brand visits per month | 3,500 |
| Leads or sales per month | 100.0 |
| Revenue value per month | $20,000 |
| Revenue value per year | $240,000 |
| Value per organic visit | $4.00 |

### Monthly value of organic traffic

| Item | Value | Detail |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cost to buy as ads | $8,750 | 3,500 non-brand clicks × $2.50 |
| Revenue it brings (selected) | $20,000 | 100.0 conversions |

- Ad-equivalent value is an estimate of replacement cost, not money in the bank. The revenue line is closer to real business value.

## How it is calculated

- **Ad-equivalent value**: organic visits × non-brand share × average CPC
- **Revenue value**: organic visits × conversion rate × value per conversion

## Why exclude brand traffic?

People searching your company name would find you anyway, and brand clicks are cheap to buy in Google Ads. Counting them at the average CPC overstates what SEO is contributing.

Google Search Console lets you filter queries that contain your brand name to find the non-brand share.

## How to find your average CPC

1. Export your top organic queries from Google Search Console.
2. Paste them into Google Ads Keyword Planner for your target locations.
3. Use the top-of-page bid range and weight it by the clicks each query brings.

## Increasing the value of organic traffic

- Target commercial keywords (“cost”, “hire”, “company”, “near me”) with dedicated service pages.
- Add calculators, comparisons and case studies that convert visitors into leads.
- Improve page speed and calls to action on pages that already rank.
- Build internal links from informational articles to service pages.

## FAQ

### What is SEO traffic value?

An estimate of what your organic search clicks would cost if you bought them through Google Ads: non-brand organic visits × average cost per click.

### How do SEO tools calculate traffic value?

Tools such as Ahrefs and Semrush estimate the traffic each ranking keyword brings and multiply it by that keyword’s CPC. Using your own Search Console clicks is more accurate.

### Is traffic value the same as ROI?

No. Traffic value is the replacement cost in ads; ROI compares the revenue SEO brings with what you spend on it. The SEO ROI calculator forecasts that.

### Should brand searches be included?

Usually not, because brand traffic would mostly arrive anyway and is inexpensive to buy as ads.
